Winter:  Inward, Reflective, Hibernation

Snow has finally made its appearance on the Mount Desert Island.  While for some this marks the beginning of a dark, cold and challenging time, for our earth it invites a warm insulating blanket for nutrients to seep into her soil, preparing it for the planting of spring.  The quite snow and dark days remind us all that life is not just about being external; it reminds us of the very natural part of ourselves that needs to go inward, to pay attention to what's happening in our internal landscape, to nourish and prepare us for the time when the sun changes again, and we are more external in nature.

Why is it so challenging for most of us to accept this as a time of inward looking?  How do you feel about who you are right now?  ...how you are living your life?  ...the choices you are making on a day to day basis that create who you are and how your life is playing out?  When its uncomfortable to look within there is usually something without that isn't fulfilling us...

It takes courage to look within, to reflect and to cultivate an awareness of yourself and of the patterns we play out every day that keep us from living in alignment with the gifts we've been given.  There are many tools available to support you on this incredible internal journey.  Yoga is not just a practice of movement, or the funky strange twisted postures you see in books...its a way of living that cultivates deep awareness to who you are now and what you are doing that creates the life you are currently living.  Postures are just one step on this road to self discovery...

What is Mindful Therapy?

Mindfulness is the practice of knowing whats happening now.  Its not easy to do that in a body that is chronically tight from stress, tension, anxiety...  Mindful therapy offers you a way of experiencing WHY your body is chronically tight and this wisdom helps you learn to let go and allow change to happen.  This leads to lasting change in the chronic tightness in your neck and shoulders, this helps you move past and work with the pain in your low back in a different way than you have before.  As you come to know your tightness, you come to know the parts of yourself that cause the tightness.  With that knowing, you can begin to do things in your life that will support the ways you envision being.
